What are the two ‘bulbs’ either side of the god in the centre of the Sunstone? Asked by Wheatfields Primary School. Chosen and answered by Professor Khristaan Villela.

The “bulbs” contain the claws of the central deity. The bulbs are part of the symbol for the day sign for Ollin, that translates as “motion” or earthquake. It is the name of the Fifth Sun, or creation, that the Aztecs believed they were living in [and we still live in today].
