Miniature eagle warrior figure, ceramic, Mexica (Aztec), c.1350-1521 CE, height 16 cms., Royal Museum of Art and History, Brussels
The ‘Eagle Warriors’ were one of the Aztec warrior orders. Particularly meritorious warriors, who had taken numerous prisoners, could rise to join one of the orders and enjoyed privileges that were otherwise reserved only for nobles.
